Products That Breathe
Gatepost Lantern

The client provided a simple visual idea for the socle design, which we took on board and developed it into something much more solid in structure.
I had taken this from a very small sleek design, to a three tiered product, which would mechanically attach to both the lantern above and the obelisk below. A lot of design and development took place throughout, taking the curvature elements from the client visual on board, to creating a more balanced supporting stand, which had to fit to a precise tolerance on the outdoor columns.

Working very closely with the client allows for challenges to be smoothly resolved

Once we reached our final design, the lantern was designed for manufacture using 3d software (as shown below), with all the various parts given technical dimensions and exploded visuals, for the makers to create the piece with as much information as possible.

Final Product
The final piece was beautifully handmade and finished in the workshop, as you can see above from our product photography. All the wiring was done in house as well to ensure the lantern was tested for safety for outdoor use before we could send it to the client.
This original hanging lantern, now turned 'gatepost lantern', was very well balanced and stood strong on top of each obelisk structure that was built for this lantern project.
It was the start of many more gatepost lanterns at Jamb London, and I very much enjoyed working closely with the client to develop a very unique piece, which was both conceptually and technically challenging.

Pull Out Table

This was one of my first projects at FRD Designers & Makers. I was tasked with creating a bespoke pull out table, for Martin Kemp Design.
This client had a very specific look for how they wanted the product to be. I worked from their visual inspiration and developed a table that functionally came together to work in its intended environment, which in this regard, was designed for a private lounge suite within a luxury yacht project.

Designing for a boat was a new challenge I welcomed and savoured completing
The production phase was very intense, as I had to design various components within the table structure, that had to fit to specific tolerances in order for the table to come together beautifully.
Here are some snapshots I took on my journey throughout the manufacturing of this bespoke piece. From CNC milling, to metal spinning, I learnt how to work alongside very skilled craftsmen, collaborating with them all the way.

Final Product
After multiple weeks of design and production with the makers, we created this solid brass table structure, made up of various intricate components.
All the metalwork had a nickel plated finish, as requested by the client and the surface was brushed with linear marks as you can see below. They decided on a lighter finish for the leather column in the centre, which we had hand stitched around the metalwork.

Bespoke Door Handles
Another fun project at FRD, was the design and manufacture of these bespoke door handles.
The client brief was to design a pair of handles that mounted on a large timber cabinet door and also using this design, create a smaller bespoke set of handles, as well. We didn't work from a client inspiration image or sketch, so I had to be inventive with the makers, to create a handle that was totally bespoke and sits well within their interior aesthetic.
As I did with all my projects, I had taken various images during the production phase of the piece. I was in very close collaboration with the metal machinist to create the final parts, which we together assembled mechanically, without any joints.
